Opening the kitchen to the dining room, a popular change on these split-levels and side-splits, is a wall question for a contractor and may need a permit if the wall is load-bearing.

Is the quote different for an older house?
The cabinetry is priced the same way, but older kitchens in Stanley Park or Forest Heights often have walls and floors that are out of level, soffits to deal with, and existing boxes to assess for refacing.
